kawaii overload

Monday, September 28, 2009

i found a blog called supercutekawaii.com while checking for kawaii
stuff online. this blog is the ultimate source of everything cute and
adorable. they have wide array of original japanese kawaii things from
dolls, to mugs, accessories and stationery. what makes it more loaded
is the blog followers who are kawaii fanatics themselves. a lot of
them post their own photos of cute stuff in the shoppig alert section.
some of them are photography enthusiasts who posts their own artworks
and cute photos and are part of the flickr group supercutekawaii which
im guessing is associated with the blog. for sure i'll be
visiting this blog more than my own. haha

other cool stuff... like the diy dunny--a blank, faceless, unclothed

south pawed copyright

Sunday, September 20, 2009

We all heard about the word copyright and the idea of this licensing
scheme, the value of it to all authors, artists etc...but ever heard
of copyleft?! the reason why i got interested on this topic is because
i'm left handed. it doesnt have any connection to it but it just
sparked my interest because it's a play on the word "copyright". haha.
well thee real reason why i came across this is because i want to know
the legalities and repercussions if i copy and paste pictures off of
internet to my personal blog.So i googled it and came upon this term. Im not a lawyer so i just trust my
understanding of what i read online. in the end, i decided i won't take
chances copying pictures especially of professional photographers who
by the way, can really sue you once caught usig their work of art.
about hunting the people who do use them without consent and posted
commercially?!!! it is possible... :( thst gives me a good reason to
take more photos using my own camera. :)

While copyright allows authors to prohibit others from reproducing, adapting or distributing copies fo their works, copyleft on the other hand gives a person who gets a copy of a work permission to reproduce, adapt or distribute work as long as it's uses the same licensing scheme at the end.. The worldwide web definitely became a smaller avenue for me to find pictures that I can post on my blogs but at the same, it gives me a sense of responsibility. I realized how little things could get so complicated by just being ignorant about it. I don't know how many people got caught copying works of others but for sure I know I'll have to be careful.

Happy Hour Stop at Ono's Restaurant

tsunami is the bomb!

Tsunami is this dangerous!

It's the first time I've tried this from Ono's restaurant where my friend works and it sure made a big wave on my mouth. :) It's a mix of bananas, milk, granola and boba. With just a tad of sweetness, it keeps me craving for more. Disclaimer: I'm not a paid advertiser of Ono's, or any other products you'll see on my blog. Just raving on how much I love them. haha

10 REASONS WHY I CAN'T GET MY HANDS OFF MY IPHONE:

Before I go on the list, let me tell you that I own the iphone not because I just want to join the bandwagon and hype of  “looking cool” when you got it.

I would say I’ve been on a different clique of bandwagon for 2 years, which is—people who just spent years adoring the phone but never buys it.

Until Apple announced it has slashed 50% off the original price of the latest model back then, the iphone 3g. Right away, I wanted to sign up online for a new contract and get the phone coz I’m getting really jealous coz everyone got the 3g. So I went on to their website and filled out necessary forms. Then, I was taken to the last step which is to click “submit order”… I was that close to getting it!!! But before I did, all of a sudden my very good instinct worked that very minute and told me “don’t get it!!!” So I didn’t. Two weeks after, 3gs came out. ha! Well, one of my cousins kinda hated me for telling her the great news for me and horrible news for her…She got hers a week before Apple cut the prices of the older 3g model. So it’s like, she’s robbed twice. I felt sorry for her. (ara you know I do! J) But technology is always evolving like there’s no tomorrow. So it’s very understandable things like these happen.

So  back to the 10 reasons why this phone setting the bar way up there for me.

OF AEBELSKIVERS, SOLVANG AND WHITE MOCHA

Monday, September 14, 2009

We come to the part where I explain what those aebelskivers are and what they mean to me. And believe me when I say, those big pancake puffs are phenomenal. Well, at least this one tv host from Food Channel who was interviewed for  another food network production of a show called "Best Thing I Ever Ate" thought so... and as I find myself too consumed by this show, I'm little by little taking this guy's word for it. Until the show ended, and all I can think of is that divine, deep fried and round, fluffy bread filled with bananas and sprinkled with sugar called "aebelskivers." Well, I was also thinking about the ricotta cream cheese cannoli (it's a Sicilian pastry dessert which also means little tube, and is usually filled with creamy filling then deep fried) but I was more in love with  those big puffs for some reason. Maybe it was a case of love at first sight. haha  Just writing about this makes me crave twice as much when I first saw it on tv. I warned you about how I could get so emotional on food. haha. But seriously, the next morning I know I will scour the internet for a restaurant that sells these or at least a link on a recipe. I was dying to get some... :) Fortunately, I found 7,270 results on Google on just about anything aebelskivers. So there I was, savoring the moment of hope that I will finally be able to try it. But as I delve deeper into my research, I found out that the closest place I could get these bad boys is at Solvang, CA. probably around 350 miles away from San Diego. I knew I won't go that far for food. But my planned trip with my dad going to Santa Maria, was the answer to all my cravings that time. I was so thrilled because I realized the chance to try some of those aebelskivers is not far from happening. Just 30 miles away from Santa Maria is a Danish community where all those fancy littles Danish stores and restaurants are. I wasn't that crazy to look for a store right away that sells them, but after being tricked by a store imposing as a photography store, we went on walking until my boyfriend told me "hey look!" I was too busy taking random pics that time so I didn't pay attention right away but as soon as I saw the signage that says Solvang Restaurant, Arne's Famous Aebelskivers", I couldn't believe my eyes right away. I had to pause and  exclaimed "Oh my God. I found it!!!" Seriously, it was by far the most obvious display of being a food junkie I have ever done. I can't believe myself either. Hahaha. and knowing that the store is closing in 6 minutes when we got there really made me nervous. So we lined up right away, and boy was I really excited as I get closer to the window that takes our orders. While waiting, we see how those girls, flipped the pancake puffs with sticks like crazy fast. I was so thrilled. I enjoyed every minute eating the treat with raspberry jam and powdered sugar on top--it was divine. And with iced white mocha on my other hand, the last few sips and bites were heaven. :)

Fresh off the oven

It's good to be back! After months on hiatus from blogging actively, I'm back with a fresh basket of ideas and stories to tell. I missed blogging and finally my plan of creating a new one has been realized. :) I've been blogging for quite some time now, but I'm putting the old one to rest  and so as the good and sometimes the not so good old memories noted there. So where do I begin? Oh the title, why the title.. For some reason, the name "sugar quoted" came to mind as I was craving for this one dessert called Aebelskivers (more details to follow). So anything that relates to sweet and sugary became an option for naming. Ironically, I created this blog not to "SUGARCOAT", (you got it, right?, I know you do.. :) I created this to rave from personal point of view, about stuff I really loved, food that left me craving for months,  desserts that made me into a dessert junkie, cosmetics that made me want to buy a year supply of them (wishful thinking), places that enjoyed so much, great people I saw and met, beautiful things that left me in awe and just about anything that is yet to surprise me tomorrow and the following days to come. And as I see and experience them, even the most minute thing that made me go "whoa, that's sweeeeeeeeettttttttttttt" will definitely be noted. :) So as I go on my walk, I wish to see all the beauty of life and capture all its sweetness. I hope you'll enjoy the blog as I build it up and share with you a chunk of this sugary adventure! hahaha...
