OF AEBELSKIVERS, SOLVANG AND WHITE MOCHA

We come to the part where I explain what those aebelskivers are and what they mean to me. And believe me when I say, those big pancake puffs are phenomenal. Well, at least this one tv host from Food Channel who was interviewed for another food network production of a show called "Best Thing I Ever Ate" thought so... and as I find myself too consumed by this show, I'm little by little taking this guy's word for it. Until the show ended, and all I can think of is that divine, deep fried and round, fluffy bread filled with bananas and sprinkled with sugar called "aebelskivers." Well, I was also thinking about the ricotta cream cheese cannoli (it's a Sicilian pastry dessert which also means little tube, and is usually filled with creamy filling then deep fried) but I was more in love with those big puffs for some reason. Maybe it was a case of love at first sight. haha Just writing about this makes me crave twice as much when I first saw it on tv. I warned you about how I could get so emotional on food. haha. But seriously, the next morning I know I will scour the internet for a restaurant that sells these or at least a link on a recipe. I was dying to get some... :) Fortunately, I found 7,270 results on Google on just about anything aebelskivers. So there I was, savoring the moment of hope that I will finally be able to try it. But as I delve deeper into my research, I found out that the closest place I could get these bad boys is at Solvang, CA. probably around 350 miles away from San Diego. I knew I won't go that far for food. But my planned trip with my dad going to Santa Maria, was the answer to all my cravings that time. I was so thrilled because I realized the chance to try some of those aebelskivers is not far from happening. Just 30 miles away from Santa Maria is a Danish community where all those fancy littles Danish stores and restaurants are. I wasn't that crazy to look for a store right away that sells them, but after being tricked by a store imposing as a photography store, we went on walking until my boyfriend told me "hey look!" I was too busy taking random pics that time so I didn't pay attention right away but as soon as I saw the signage that says Solvang Restaurant, Arne's Famous Aebelskivers", I couldn't believe my eyes right away. I had to pause and exclaimed "Oh my God. I found it!!!" Seriously, it was by far the most obvious display of being a food junkie I have ever done. I can't believe myself either. Hahaha. and knowing that the store is closing in 6 minutes when we got there really made me nervous. So we lined up right away, and boy was I really excited as I get closer to the window that takes our orders. While waiting, we see how those girls, flipped the pancake puffs with sticks like crazy fast. I was so thrilled. I enjoyed every minute eating the treat with raspberry jam and powdered sugar on top--it was divine. And with iced white mocha on my other hand, the last few sips and bites were heaven. :)
